While in Belgium, Microsoft's CEO, Steve Ballmer has taken the time to talk about some of the company's operating systems, including Windows Vista and XP. While Vista was deemed as "wanted" by customers, Windows XP got a bit of hope that it will not stop selling through the retail channel on June 30th.
The end of June is set to also mean the end of most Windows XP sales, with one notable exception being XP Home, but only when used with low-cost laptops. Still, as stated by Ballmer, Microsoft could reconsider its stance on XP sales and continue to offer the old OS if people will want that. At least in theory that suggest that the 'Save XP' petition which was signed by more than 150,000 people may count for something after all although we remain skeptical as to Microsoft keeping too much of XP alive. And we can't blame them.
