Viacom just lost a little battle in its $1 billion lawsuit against Google as a federal judge denied its request to receive access to the source code of YouTube's search feature. Viacom sued Google over videos posted by members of YouTube and one of the ways to win the copyright infingement case would have been to prove that the site's Video Identification Tool, that should prevent copyrighted material from being posted, didn't do a 'good enough' job.

Luckily for Google, the source code of the tool has been deemed as being a trade secret by judge Louis L. Stanton, one that can't simply be given out as it would mean a business loss for the G-men. Still, even with this decision, the lawsuit goes on.
