Creative Labs, Sound Blater builder and X-Fi manufacturer has had a revelation this year as it has decided to give out its high-end sound processing chip to third parties. That decision will soon see Creative have a little competition from Auzentech, which is currently building the X-Fi Prelude 7.1.

The X-Fi Prelude features Creative's X-FI CA20K chip and will offer EAX 5.0, CMSS-3D and 64MB worth of X-RAM. The card is set to go into mass production by the second week of July and hit the stores at the end of the month. It's price tag will hover around the $200 point.

If the drivers won't cause problems then the Prelude should be a very interesting alternative to Creative's cards. Even though they feature the same chip.
