AMD's upcoming AM2+ chipset, the RD790 will see the company return to the high-end chipset game and will probably give Nvidia a lot of headaches. A cool chipset needs a cool name so AMD seems to have decided on calling it the 790FX, thus keeping the numbering scheme and adding the 'FX' that has already been featured in the Athlon 64 series and will make a comeback with the Phenom FXs set to begin shipping by the end of the year.
790FX boards are set to have full support for the upcoming Phenom line-up while also supporting the older AM2 CPUs, they will feature DDR2-1066 support and will be able to carry four graphic cards (in multi-GPU configurations). The release of the first 790FX motherboards has been pushed recently and it's now looking like they will be arriving in October or November.
