The wonders of technology have again worked together for a better tomorrow and enabled memory manufacturer Hynix Semiconductor to develop the HYMP31GP72CUP4-C6, a 2-Rank 8GB PC2-4200 RDIMM.
The new modules use MetaRAM’s MetaSDRAM technology which, courtesy of one little chipset which sits between the memory controller and the DRAM, enables up to four times more mainstream DRAMs to be put on the the PCB.
Hynix's new 8GB server memory modules are built with mainstream 1Gb DDR2 SDRAMs, thus lowering the overall product costs while still making sure capacity isn't a problem. The MetaSDRAM-boasting DDR2 memory is already in production while DDR3 DIMMs using the technology will come in the second half of 2008.
