With Blu-Ray left alone to handle true high-definition content, Sharp is safe to move forward with building better diodes for use in future Blu optical drives. Almost ready to start manufacturing laser diodes that will bring 6x recording to the Blu-Ray line-up, Sharp is to planning have new products enabling 8x recording for both single and dual-layer Blu-Ray discs next year.

Further down the road Sharp is expecting to make 400mW, 12x diodes in 2010 when Blu-Ray is likely to be the dominant format, beating the old and grey DVD.
