OCZ is branching out its brand name further this year as the company is planning to start selling do-it-yourself gaming laptops. Likely using the expertise of its latest purchase, Hypersonic PC, OCZ will offer gaming enthusiasts the possibility to buy a barebone laptop and equip it with the desired components which fit their budget.

The 'standard' DIY notebook will measure 14.25" x 11.25" x 1.5" and will feature a 15.4-inch display, with the components coming with it including an Intel PM965 motherboard, a Core 2 Duo CPU, a GeForce 8600M GT card (BEd: Which isn't very "gaming") and an 8x DVD writer. Also boasting a 9-cell battery, the laptop will be pretty big and heavy but it can't always be a win-win situation.

OCZ is set to back up its DIY initiative with extended support but we'll know more about that later this year when the notebooks will start selling.
