Candidate for "first thing to be disabled after a fresh Vista install" the User Account Control will still be included in the next Windows release, but, according to Microsoft, a major UAC update is planned for Window 7. After carefully weighting in the positive and negative feedback from Vista's UAC, Microsoft has reached a conclusion as to what needs to be done for the Windows 7 UAC.
According to the Engineering Windows 7 blog, Microsoft aims to:
- Reduce unnecessary or duplicated prompts in Windows and the ecosystem, such that critical prompts can be more easily identified.
- Enable customers to be more confident that they are in control of their systems.
- Make prompts informative such that people can make more confident choices.
- Provide better and more obvious control over the mechanism.
The changes seem quite decent and they may be able to make UAC less annoying. Now we wonder if the UAC update will be offered to Windows Vista users too?
