Through a quick, short press release PC builder Lenovo announced that it has bought, for an undisclosed sum a startup called Switchbox Labs. While its name doesn't ring any bells, the Seattle-based company, which is focused on developing "new consumer technologies," is an interesting purchase as it has been co-founded by Michael Sievert, a former corporate vice president at Microsoft. Actually, with Switchbox's acquisition, Lenovo named Sievert a senior vice president and that may have been the overall goal all along.
"Innovation is the lifeblood of our company, and despite the current challenges in the worldwide economy and PC industry, we are committed to investing in strategies and technologies that will help deliver exceptionally engineered products and services to our customers," said Lenovo's CEO William Amelio. "Switchbox Labs is doing some interesting work, and we are pleased that Switchbox and Mike are joining Lenovo."
Hopefully we won't have to wait long to see Switchbox Labs-powered Lenovo products.
