While the 3.2 GHz Core i7 965 Extreme Edition continues to rule supreme, Intel is already planning its successor which is aimed at shattering any potential AMD plans of taking back the performance crown. Dubbed Core i7 975, the upcoming Extreme Edition processor is clocked at 3.33 GHz but, even in ES (engineering sample) form, it has been overclocked all the way up to 4534 MHz and used for a new 3DMark05 world record - 47026 3DMarks.

Reported being planned for a late Q2 or early Q3 release, the Core i7 975 EE will likely be priced at $999.
