Seeing as how Nvidia is kicking the promotion of the Ion platform into high gear, Intel has designed a new chipset set on negating its two main advantages - HD playback and improved graphics performance. Already set to be used in at least one Asus Eee PC, the GN40 chipset, paired up with the Atom N280 (1.66 GHz) processor will consume significantly more than the now classic Atom N270, 945GSE duo - 16.5W compared to 8W but, as already stated, will bring HD capabilities and include a faster graphics core, the GMA 4000 (GMA 950 for the 945GSE).

The GN40 will not replace the 945GSE though as Intel is preparing the next-gen Pine trail platform for that. Seems Ion is getting a real run for its money.
