Car electronics specialist Pioneer has just unveiled the DVR-XD09J, a compact new external DVD writer for those who need optical storage on the go. Seen below, the drive measures 133 (W) x 14.8 (H) x 133 (D) mm, weights 240 grams, has USB 2.0 connectivity, and 2MB worth of buffer memory.

The upcoming release can write DVD-R/+R at 8x, DVD-R/+R DL and DVD-RW/+RW at 6x, DVD-RAM at 5x, and CD-R, CD-RW at 24x, and is bundled with CyberLink's Power2Go 6, InstantBurn 5, MediaShow 4, and PowerBackup 2. Pioneer's DVR-XD09J is expected to arrive, at first in Japan, early next month.
