Movie studios have scored a win against RealNetworks as judge Marilyn Patel in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California has decided to temporarily ban sales of the RealDVD copying software.
RealDVD, which enables users to make copies of their DVDs without breaking copy protection has been targeted by Hollywood studios for allegedly violating the US copyright law, and is the focus point of a lawsuit since autumn last year. The sale injunction for the $30 software will be in effect until the case between RealNetworks and the movie studios ends, something which will likely not happen very soon.
Responding to the issuing of the injunction, RealNetworks stated - "We are disappointed that a preliminary injunction has been placed on the sale of RealDVD. We have just received the Judge's detailed ruling and are reviewing it. After we have done so fully, we'll determine our course of action and will have more to say at that time."
As you'd expect the other camp declared itself quite pleased with the judge's decision.
