3DMark and PCMark developer Futuremark has inked a deal with China Mobile that will see it develop a new benchmarking software to determine the performance of smartphones running the latter's mobile operating system. Set to be based on SPMark, the upcoming benchmark will feature additional tests made specifically for China Mobile.

"We have chosen to use Futuremark's Benchmark as our standard testing suite for handset qualification," said Mr. Yu Chuan, the Director of the Terminal Department, China Mobile Research Institute. "With Futuremark's Benchmark, China Mobile and our handset partners have the ideal tool for accurately and reliably measuring the performance of cell phones running the smart phone operating system."

According to Futuremark, the CM benchmark will be available for licensing in Q1 2010.
