Mobile phone company Nokia and semiconductor expert Infineon Technologies have teamed up in order to develop next-gen radio frequency (RF) transceiver solutions and to ensure interoperability between their current and future equipment compatible with HSPA (High Speed Packet Access), LTE (Long Term Evolution) and later technologies.
"Taking advantage of each company's expertise as leaders in their respective fields, this cooperation will help to deliver standard-based, industry leading solutions for mobile internet devices," said Pekka Sarlund, Vice President, Wireless Modem, Nokia.
Through this cooperation Nokia and Infineon also aim to deliver a verified technology reference platform that will help accelerate the interface standardization for LTE-Advanced which enables data rates of up to 1Gbit/s. The first LTE commercial networks are expected to be launched in 2010.
