Some voices from the deeply disturbed minds of Rumorville citizens are suggesting that AMD might give the go ahead for the release of very cheap Radeon HD 2400 cards that have the Unified Video Decoder (UVD) disabled. The current revisions of the RV610 chips, the A14 and A15 have working UVD's but AMD still has revision A13 chips that have a bug that prevent the decoder to work properly.

The 'busted' A13 chips are said to be getting the UVD completely disabled and sent to OEMs for shipping in emerging markets. The move would see cheaper Radeon HD 2400 cards be sold in markets with large potential but low financial possibilities, establishing a better position for AMD which has recently seen its desktop and mobile market share go down.
