X marks the eXtreme spot so it was only natural that a company called XtremeNotebooks would provide the most hardcore portable PCs around. And since hardcore is currently quad-core XtremeNotebooks claims to be the first to offer a US distributed laptop to feature a quad-core Intel CPU.

The Xtreme 917V notebook is "a giant step forward in mobile computing power", said XtremeNotebooks President, Steven Nichols.

The quad-core ready notebook features a 17" UXGA or SXGA+ widescreen LCD, 512MB to 4GB worth of RAM and a 8X DVD±R/RW burner. In terms of processors the 'lowest-end' option is the Core 2 Duo E6300 while the highest end one is the Core 2 Quad Q6700. Storage can be provided by a maximum of three 250GB SATA drives while graphics is Nvidia territory with the GeForce Go 7950 being the base offer.

All these have a price though as the 'cheapest' 917V costs a hefty $2,399.
