We've seen quite a few internal solid state drives (in pictures) until today but the external drive segment hasn't been too friendly towards flash chips and that's why Buffalo stepped in. The company has now released a new drive series that consists of three flash-boasting products with capacities going from 32 through 64 and reaching 100GB.

The SHD-UHRS drives have USB 2.0 interfaces and use both SLC (Single Level Cell) and MLC (Multi Level Cell) flash chips in order to offer a good combination between cost and performance. For starters Buffalo will ship the 32 and 64GB models in Japan with the 100GB drive, which will weight only 60 grams but cost just over $950 set to be released next year.
