Not wanting to leave the 'glory' of having a single-platter 320GB hard drive to
Western Digital and Samsung, Seagate has, like a ninja, introduce a new drive into its Barracuda 7200.11 line-up.
Previously starting at 500 GB, the 7200.11 family now includes a 3.5-inch 320GB drive with only one platter. Featuring a SATA 3.0 Gbps interface, the drive has 16MB of buffer memory and MTBF (mean time before failure) of 750,000 hours. Having one platter enables Seagate's drive into having a slightly lower noise output and power consumption. No word on any 640GB, dual-platter drive yet so Western Digital is still alone here. Now bring on the 1.5TB drives.
