Data-encrypting fishermen at Seagate have now begun shipping the first 1TB hard drive to feature a Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) interface. The new drive is part of the enterprise-prone Barracuda ES.2 family and it promises to deliver both top-notch performance, reliability, sufficient storage space and low power consumption, the latter being assured by the PowerTrim technology which is able to deliver a 20% reduction in overall drive power consumption.

Working at 7,200 rpm, the new 1TB 3.5-inch drives have a said to have a 1.2 million hour MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) and come with a 5 year warranty. 750 and 500 GB Barracuda ES.2 SAS drives are also available.
