Earlier this year, when the low-cost laptop 'bug' hadn't yet bitten a lot of PC builders Asus talked about its next-gen Eee PC and how it would feature WiMAX support and the wireless technology a boost. Fast forward to the Eee PC 900's release and WiMAX was nowhere to be found in the $550 machine while Asus claimed that WiMAX was still in plan and will be delivered in a later version of the laptop.

Next month, the Eee PC 901 will debut with 'chrome' rims and Intel Atom powa but it will still not feature WiMAX, at least not by default. All-out WiMAX support for the Eee PC line-up is pending.
