The ex-low-cost, netbook market will get a lot more crowded in Q3 as Dell is preparing to release its own Eee PC killah.
Pictured some two weeks ago, Dell's offer will be known as the E series and will include three models.
Weighting in about 2.2 pounds, the Dell E Classic, E Video and E Video+ will all have 8.9-inch screen with a maximum resolution of 1024x600 pixels. These notebooks will be based on an Intel platform with the CPU used being the one and only 1.6 GHz Atom. Costing $299, the E Classic will feature 512MB of DDR2 memory, a 4GB SSD, an SD slot, WiFi and will have a Linux OS preinstalled.
Going up in the world, the E Video will have 1GB of RAM, an 8GB SSD, a webcam and will utilize the same operating system. The 'highest-end' E model, the Video+ will also boast 1GB of RAM but will come equipped with a 12GB SSD and Bluetooth. Linux is again, the OS of choice. No word on the prices of the E Video or Video+ but we should find them out soon enough as Dell intends to release them in August.
