OCZ Technology has introduced its first price-cautious solid state drives, the Core series models just six weeks ago and now the company has announced that it is ready to step up its game and product line-up with the Core 2 drives. Still coming in a 2.5-inch form factor, the new SSDs have SATA 3.0 Gbps and mini USB 2.0 connectivity and will be available in 30GB, 60GB, 120GB and 250GB capacities. Compared to the first Core drive, the Core 2 SSDs have an improved seek time that is less than 0.2 - 0.3ms and higher maximum read and write speeds - 170 MB/s (120 to 143 MB/s for the Core models) and 98 MB/s (80 to 93 MB/s) respectively.

"OCZ continues the trend of enabling consumers with the latest in cutting edge solid state disc technology with the introduction of the new Core V2 SSD," said Ryan Petersen, CEO of the OCZ Technology Group. "As SSD technology progresses, OCZ will continue to release updated and enhanced solutions to ensure our customers stay on the leading edge. The new Core V2 drives offer consumers and system integrators increased capacities up to 250GB, improved read and write performance and faster seek time, all coupled with a new mini USB port empowering customers with the ability to further improve performance and compatibility by updating firmware in the future."

Said to have a MTBF (mean time before failure) of 1.5 million hours, the Core 2 SSDs are backed up by a 2-year warranty and are slated to hit the shops soon. The prices of the new SSDs have not been announced but they should be quite attractive.
