Gainward and XpertVision owner, Palit Microsystems has now unveiled a new graphics card bearing the 'Sonic' name. Based around one RV770 chip, the Radeon HD 4870 Sonic Dual Edition is not your regular/reference card due to the use of 4-phase power, a custom cooler, dual BIOS and a little thing called Smart Switch. The cooling system found on the new Sonic takes up two slots, boasts three copper heatpipes and two fans which should come in handy after using the Smart Switch. The switch enables the user to easily increase the frequencies of the card from 750 MHz (GPU) and 3800 MHz (512MB GDDR5 memory) to 775 and 4000 MHz respectively.

In addition to those above, the Radeon HD 4870 Sonic Dual Edition offers DirectX 10.1 support, CrossFireX readiness, UVD 2, plus dual-DVI and DisplayPort connectivity. Palit's new card should hop into stores later this month.
