In an effort to keep this planet relatively green for as long as possible and save a few penguins along the way Kingston has designed and released new memory modules that save resources by having cut-down PCBs. The very low-profile DIMMs are just 18.3mm high, compared to standard modules which are 30mm and thus make use of more material.
"The new low profile modules are more efficient than their predecessors. Smaller modules use fewer materials, which is better for the environment." said Ann Bai, Product Manager, DRAM Memory, APAC Region, Kingston. "The disposal of PCB can cause environmental hazard. Kingston is proud to introduce the new modules to the market and hopes this small step could help to make our world better."
Kingston's VLP offer currently includes unbuffered DDR2-800 and DDR2-667 DIMMs part of the ValueRAM series but the company will surely be looking to expand the line-up further in the near future.
