While not as hyped over GDDR5 as Qimonda, Hynix has now broken the new memory standard's speed records with a 1Gb DRAM that tops 7Gbps. Claiming the performance crown from Samsung's 6Gbps DRAM, Hynix's new 1Gb chip, which is built using 54nm technology, can process up to 28 Gigabytes of data per second with a 32-bit I/O and consumes just 1.35V.

The JEDEC-compliant 7Gbps GDDR5 DRAM is set to go great with high-end graphics cards and is scheduled to enter mass production in the first half of 2009.
