Continuing with its SSD push, OCZ has now revealed the Vertex series 2.5-inch solid state drives. Equipped with MLC (multi-level cell) NAND flash chips, the Vertex drives set themselves apart from other SSDs due to their use of on-board cache/buffer memory - 32MB for the 30 and 60GB models and 64MB for the 120 and 250GB versions.

"The new Vertex Series of SSD drives are a premium MLC based SSD solution that are designed for consumers that require fast, rugged, and reliable solid state storage," commented Eugene Chang, Director of Product Management for the OCZ Technology Group. "The Vertex makes use of our newest architecture and controller design complete with 64MB of cache to offer faster transfers and superior overall system response times in a broad range of applications and games."

Also featuring SATA 3.0 Gbps interfaces, OCZ's new SSDs have a MTBF (mean time before failure) of 1.5 million hours and offer read and write speeds of up to 200 MB/s and 160 MB/s respectively. Set to become available in the coming weeks, the 30, 60, 120 and 250GB Vertex solid state drives will be offered with a 2 year warranty and cost about $129, $249, $469 and $869 respectively.
