Coming to deny recent claims that it won't give Nvidia's Ion platform the chance for 15 minutes of fame, Intel has stated that although it is selling Atom processors with 945 series chipsets, it is also offering them as standalone products. What this means is that manufacturers will indeed have the choice of buying only Atom CPUs from Intel and get the GeForce 9400 chipset from Nvidia in order to make nettops, netbooks based on the Ion platform.

To its defense, Intel couldn't have sold Atoms without 945 silicon until now as there haven't been third-party chipsets that support it. With this issue cleared up we just have to wait on companies to start unveiling some Ion products.
