a month ago, Micro-Star International's U115 netbook has now been officially announced as the first Atom-powered portable machine to feature hybrid storage. Boasting a 10-inch LCD screen with a top resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels, the U115 weights in just about 1kg, has a 3 or 6 cell battery and is powered by Intel's 1.6 GHz Z530.
Also featuring 1GB of RAM, the netbook comes with two types of storage solutions - a flashy SSD (8 or 16GB ) for the operating system which is Windows XP Home, and a hard drive (120 or 160GB ) for 'regular' content like documents, music, movies, etc. The dual storage idea enables the netbook to turn off the hard drive when it is not used in order to save battery life. In addition to those mentioned, the U115 comes with a 1.3/2.0 megapixel webcam, a 4-in-1 card reader, WiFi and Ethernet connectivity, and, as an option, Bluetooth. The netbook should hit stores in January.
