Already king of capacity with its 1.5TB spinner, Seagate is now planning to be on top when it comes to per-platter capacity and is now preparing the release of a 3.5-inch, single-platter 7200 RPM hard drive. Codenamed ST3500410AS, the drive is part of the yet to be announced Barracuda 7200.12 family and, in addition to the 500GB platter, features 16MB of buffer and a SATA 3.0 Gbps connection interface.

The new 3.5-inch HDD cost just under 50 Euro on pre-order and is expected to hit stores on Monday.
