Via Tech has announced that it is planning a super-low power super-efficient rival to Intel's dual-core Atom processors (according to Chinese website,
HKEPC).
Said developments in the current Nano microprocessor market are set to really heat up through 2009. Intel is currently offering the dual-core Atom 330, which is a mini-notebook targeted processor. AMD will also release a super-low power dual-core processor, the "Conesus", that is again contending for Intel's market segment.
The Via Nano 3000 dual-core will likely be built on a Fujitsu 45-nm process, like Intel, however the 40-nm process is also an option they have considered. The processor is also likely to include SSE4 instruction support integrated (designed to speed up multimedia. VIA will also be extending its single-core line for the avid netbook fans that favor the HP 2133 units, but eagerly await processor upgrades.
