Intel's move to 32nm will obviously lead to the introduction of a heap of processors and among the new arrivals will be the successors of the current top of the desktop tops, the Core i7 CPUs. Based on the updated Westmere architecture and manufactured using the 32nm process technology, the next-gen high-end desktop CPUs are codenamed Gulftown and will feature six core, 12 threads, integrated triple channel DDR3 controllers and 12MB of L3 cache.

According to the Intel roadmap seen below, the Gulftown hexa-cores will be compatible with X58 motherboards so they'll be coming in a Socket LGA 1366 package. Until Gulftown comes arond though, those looking for top performance will be able to get the 3.33 GHz Core i7 975 EE or a non-Extreme 3.06 GHz Core i7-950.
