Still the next best thing in terms of display technology, OLED (organic light-emitting diode) continues to have a few issues which need to be resolved before it truly goes mainstream, and one the most troublesome is the significantly lower lifespan of blue OLEDs, as opposed to red and green ones. Thankfully, progress is being made, with a group of scientists led by Pacific Northwest National Laboratory's Asanga Padmaperuma claiming to have designed, synthesized and tested new materials that improve the power efficiency (and consequently, the lifespan) of blue OLEDS by at least 25%.

The scientists have already discussed their work in a meeting of the American Chemical Society. Now all we need is manufacturers to use the finding for new, long-lasting OLED panels.
