Solid state drives may be 'in' these days but they are far from being perfect storage solution, with their speed still being something that could be improved. Going all out in a rather Spartan way, DDRdrive has made the DDRdrive X1, a PCIe x1 enterprise-targeting drive which features both DRAM and NAND memory.
Seen below, the new drive features 4GB of DRAM memory via four 1GB memory modules and 4GB of NAND flash storage acting as backup (remember DRAM can't retain data when powered down) and is claimed to deliver over 300,000 IOPS (Input/Output Operations Per Second) for random reads and over 200,000 IOPS for random writes, over 2,000% more compared to Intel's high-performance X25-E SSDs. The declared sustained read and write speeds are of over 215 and 155 MB/s.
Configurable in RAID 1, 0 or 5 setups and backed by a 5-year warranty, the DDRdrive X1 is now shipping with a price tag of $1,495. Yes, $1,500 for 4GB.
