One month ago AMD
made big news with the launch of its six-core Opteron server processors (codename 'Istanbul') but those weren't the only chips introduced. Through a new post in the
AMD at work blog, John Fruehe, the Director of Business Development for Server/Workstation products at AMD, started talking about another of June's server-oriented releases, the quad-core 'Suzuka' CPUs.
The Opteron 1000 series Suzuka processors are said to provide flexibility and power while keeping costs down and are aimed for use within single-socket web servers, small business servers, and workstations. All Suzuka models are made using the 45nm process node and are compatible with systems powered by their predecessors - although a BIOS update is required.
The 2.5 GHz Opteron 1381, 2.7 GHz 1385 and 2.9 GHz 1389 have 6MB of L3 cache, an Average CPU Power (ACP) of 75W, a TDP of 115W, and are priced at $189, $229, and $269, respectively.
