While OCZ is busy breeding more Vertex models, Patriot Memory has stepped up to announce a new Torqx SSD family, the M28. Coming in 128 and 256GB capacities, the Torqx M28 have a 2.5-inch form factor (but are bundled with a 3.5-inch bracket - nice touch Patriot), and feature a SATA 3.0 Gbps interface, 128MB of cache memory - double the amount found on the Torqx, a MTBF of over 1 million hours, and read and write speeds of up to 220 MB/s (260 for the Torqx) and 200 MB/s (180), respectively.

"The Torqx series SSDs takes the technology of SSD to the next level," says Meng J Choo, Patriot's Flash Product Manager. "Competitor non-cache drives suffered from what consumers described as 'stuttering affect' which inhibited the drive performance. Torqx Series addresses this issue with a DRAM cache that acts as a buffer for data transfer bottlenecks and increases the random and sequential read and write transfer rates."

The Torqx M28 drives are set to start shipping soon and will be provided with a 10-year warranty, a rather impressive offer that extends to all Torqx series SSD. We wonder if OCZ, who recently bumped the warranty for several of its SSDs to three years, will counter and provide 10 years too.
