I tried it, at 250hz and all my usb ports would not function, had to restore to default, be careful people, this could be dangerous.

i tried to tweak my usb some months ago.. actually the 250hz usbport.sys doesn't work for me ( mx500 + MSI k7n2), so i tried the usbport.sys 500hz and woomb it worked

yea i forget to write mx510 are limited to 450hz max.

mx300-310-500 -> 500hz -> 1000hz
the 1000hz .sys has been removed dont know why :/

it tells you how to hex edit the usbport.sys to change the refresh rate.

if you look closely, you'll see the string is

B0 04 73 09 52 8A 0A 01
but you can find
B0 04 73 09 52 8A 0A ??

where ?? is different per OS version and service pack.

you can change the first 7 pairs, and just leave the last pair the same.

i.e.

B0 04 73 09 52 8A 0A ?? -> B0 02 73 09 52 8C 0A ?? == 125hz -> 500hz




also, this isn't dangerous. USB spec requires up to 1000 hz. if something is usb certified, it's ok with 1000 hz. if it can't go 1000, then it got lazy because MS decided to arbitrarilly lock the hz (at the OS level) at 125, even though it should be adjustable on the fly, and the never exspected to be used on anything but windows.

is there any reason to try this if i have a wireless MX duo? i tried and at 250 i lost all USB function, and at 500 it still reads around 125 in mouserate tester in windows.

any suggestions?

alright this should be changed to all CORDED MX series of logitech mice. if your mouse isnt CORDED (ie mx700 and mx1000) this tweak will give you no advantage.

I think it should be possible since you're actually altering the polling time of the usb device 125 hz is 8 ms and 500 hz is 2ms. So 7ms =~ 142hz, 6ms =~ 167hz, 5ms = 200Hz, 4ms = 250Hz and 3ms =~ 333Hz

I own this mouse and it's working great. The only thing that i had to do was do disable Enhance Pointer Precision in WinXP.
Does this option make any big difference or it MUST be enabled?

What if I applied the 250 option and now my keyboard and mouse (both usb) don't respond as soon as the winxp login screen appears. The mouse is a mx510. The keyboard works to get into bios and that is about it. I have tried swapping to a ps/2 mouse and keyboard and absolutely nothing happens with them, not even able to access bios.
What are my options for those that have "recovered". How did you do it. BTW the mouse and keyboard work in my other computer so they are fine.

remove the mouse and check if the keyboard is working.
if its not then try to use PS/2

uhm... I did say I tried a ps/2 mouse and keyboard? Anyway, thanks for trying to help but I resorted to sticking in the winxp cd and repairing the OS
Not by choice but it worked. Now I will have to re-update winxp and make sure all drivers are current and stable. For those that have the same problem I had and don't know what I am talking about here is how I fixed it.

1) make sure in your bios that you are booting to the cd rom first
2) stick winxp cd in drive and reboot
3) load your sata or raid drivers if necessary (F6)
4) do not select repair option here
5) select to setup winxp
6) agree to license (F8)
7) now select repair by pressing R and make sure your winxp OS is highlighted
8) winxp will now erase all its driver cache and reload the original ones from cd
9) download all updates, sp1, sp2 yaddda,yadda,yadda

You should be up and running again.
