Hello guys, my first post on here,

I just got a used laptop and it was working just fine when i got it but i wanted to do a fresh install of windows xp on it, so i erased the current windows in it with fdisk (deleted partitions and made new ones) and when i tried to install windows xp pro on the "Copying files" screen the laptop shuts down. I tried afew times, thinking the battery might have died, but it was plugged in to the power. Now when i press the power button the laptop wont start and the little light that has a charging picture on top of it blinks about 10 times. I am not sure, but have i done something wrong?

Also a couple of times i tried pushing the "?" (question mark) button or the "i" button and the laptop would start up but then shut down after about a min or so.

Thanks for any input.

Was this originally a company laptop? I am having similar problems with a laptop and I found the only way of getting it back on again was to drain the battery. I'm not sure what is causing it, but it may be some kind of security feature that the company has put in the bios. Try resetting/flashing the bios (remove the cmos battery and turn the laptop on, turn it off, replace the cmos battery) or try finding the latest bios version off the compaq website.
