My favourite gotta be Avast!, 'cos it's free and not too bloated, and it has about every feature you need.

Avast? Interesting. I have used 4 different ones. Panda, AVG, McAfee, and norton.
My favorite is McAfee

. And As I saw in PCworld magazine it rated McAfee as second best (Bitdefender was best) But even so I trust McAfee better as its a bigger company and is more well known. it also offers feature like test, virus map, and Virus encyclopedia.

I have used norton sophos in the past and like them - norton is incredibly user friendly and I would reccomend to new users. the only trouble is getting rid of the messages after it has found a virus it cannot delete. Sophos is very discrete and proffesional. My overall favourite has to be Windows OneCare Live though. Even though it is still in beta it has to be the friendlyest and most usefull security package i have ever used.

I prefer NOD32. Norton and Panda slow down my computer. Currently I'm using Bitdefender with good results.

I use AVG free edition and WinClam (ClamAV) as backup. Plus various online scanners if need be.
I used to be a Norton fan, but they started bloating big time, then I got pissed at their underhanded methods of keeping their software on your computer. Running their uninstall doesn't actually uninstall the program. I've had to go in multiple times and remove their entries out the registry. It's possible that was only a problem with 2003 edition, but either way, it's no go.
McAfee has always sucked and always will. While I guess the programs better then nothing, it will NOT protect you. Take that as you will, but I actually clean peoples computers out, and almost every infected computer was running McAfee so the people thought they were safe.
The fact is, no Anti-virus program is good enough to catch everything. That's been proven over and over by test. Which is why I usually have 2 on my computer.
My computers are always clean. Everyone's computer that I work on, that actually follow my advice on how to stay virus & spy/mal ware free, stay clean also. It's not very hard, not at all.
oh, I also run process guard. It's a very valuable program when you are running new software that you are not exactly sure of. Of course, running those programs in a virtual environment is best, but I don't except the average user to do stuff like that.
I've been meaning to check Avast! out, while I like AVG, I don't feel it's the best software for the average user. I had someone delete a whole folder of my stuff that I was storing on his computer because it thought that a program from GRC could be dangerous. He didn't actually bother reading what it said, and didn't bother calling me and saying something was a problem, and just deleted the whole folder (10 gigs worth of work down the drain). I guess he was bummed when he found out that his Dead Can Dance collection was in there, and I wasn't about to go about ripping it for him again. No point in me being their tech support if they aren't going to call me for the serious problems, yet call me every time the cable goes out. Like I can fix that, I don't work for the cable company. =)
I use Firefox, and I use the Aspell plugin, and for some reason it really likes to have spaces in word. Apparen't proven isn't spelt like that, it's supposed to be pr oven or pr-oven or prov en, prov-en. okay, I guess maybe proven isn't the correct spelling of the word or something, but I've never heard of those others as anything.
maybe i'm still asleep and i'm dreaming this up.
oh, well, later all. ES4:Oblivion awaits.
