Hi everyone, I've just been using my computer for less than a year with everything working almost up to scratch but I decided to start fresh and installed a new version of windows and I found that sound wasn't working. I have tried the hp support page for all original drivers but still it takes me to the device manager and to install from there and that's where I'm having problems...I have also tried to install it from different sites and I run the installation and still when I turn my computer on, no sound...the driver I am looking for is Realtek AC97...please someone help it would be greatly appreciated

Firts of all Hello and welcome to the Techconnect forum. Regarding your problem, well codecs can be troublesome every once in a while so I'd begin by asking you if after you've installed the drivers the card (codec) is recognised by your OS (Windows). If not than you could check for conflicts with other devices (although add-in sounds card are more likely to be affected) or you could try another driver from this site (latest version is A3.89). Try the driver and see what happens. If the card is recognised by Windows but there are no sounds comming out smile.gif check the output devices - headphones/sound system. I hope this helps. Keep us posted on your progress wink.gif. Good luck.
