What would you say was the easiest Gnu/Linux distribution that you have tried?
Myself I found
Debian to be the easiest.

Depends, for Webserving it would be Debian, Redhat or FreeBSD
for Desktops I would recommend Linspire, Xandros or Novell Linux.

For newbies I think
Mandrakelinux is the best. But SuSE and Fedora are also very nice.

I'm running Suse 9.2 Pro, Vidalinux (Gentoo based distro), and SimplyMepis and find that SimplyMepis by far is the easiest Debian based distro ever.

I would say that Redhat Linux 9.0 was the "easiest", because they use the same color scheme on both included GUIs. It makes it easier to learn and setup.

In my opinion if you really don't know anything about linux i beleive that Knoppix is for you. You simply have to put the burned cd in yor cd rom an you get a complete working Linux system which is based on Debian Linux ( one of the finest there is)
But if you whant a real Linux I Bleive Suse is for you and Mandrake doesn't come very far .....
Of course If you really know you're way around I belive that Debian Linux is for ass well power users as for Beginers ....

I would have to say for those new users try Knoppix, it loads into ram and is gone when you reboot, so you cant really screw anything, and if you dont know how to mount and view ntfs drives you cant wipe anything

and stay away from the admin options, though most of these require the root password and you have to change the password before you can enter it you should be fine. You also get the option to install off the knoppix CD, which is good because you can install with a setup like the knoppix setup, or you can install classic Debian but with all the inculded tools of Knoppix

For absolute n00bs who've never used linux but don't want to pay for "Lindows" (It's name changed a while back, now linspire), Ubuntu is by far the simplest to install (of what I've used), and use for any absolute beginner to *nix. (I still use it for just a quick drop onto a PC if I don't feel like messing with a lot of the requirements you end up having to DL or compile or whatever for other distros)
If you're a beginner and don't want to format your drive, I would use a bootable *nix like Knoppix.
In the end the real decision has to be made by the user, whatever may be a good distro or easy distro to one person, may not be so great to another.

i find ubuntu to be the easiest to install and use. debian etch is also pretty easy, but it doesnt have quite the hardware support, especially wireless. but the intructions are pretty straightfoward for compiling drivers for the system.
