I Prefear Zone Alarm Pro, because it's a very good Firewall and there are often Updates and new things in this Update, maybe a Virenscanner and so on.
You can Download the newest Version here:

Outpost Pro. It offers a good Ad blocker also. The Ad Blocker of Norton is toooo intrusive and asks too much readjusting.

Free version of Zone Alarm is adequate enough but you could try Sygate which is also free.

Either use Norton Antivirus 2005 built in stuff or Windows Firewall from SP2 together with a hardware router. This the right decision for now. Another option would be to use Zonealarm Security Suite which has built in Antivirus and Firewall!

If you want professionally full featured filrewall as a freeware without any limitation, try;
Kerio Personal Firewall
This is a firewall right to the point, without any interface overload, support for M$ network with trusted/untrusted mode, load/save configuration, MD5 challenge, remote administration o'er internet/LAN, Windows service mode, supported on all windows platforms, etc.

I would recommed Kerio Personal Firewall aswell except you should understand what the function of a firewall is

i.e. it's a bit on the techical side.
I have tried Zone Alarm once and it crashed my pc so no zone alarm for me.
For the laymen Norton Firewall would be best I think

McAfee Personal Firewall Plus seems to work well.

Nortorn sucks! It has too many conflicting problems with other programs
I would recommed Zone Alarm or Pc Internet Patrol

Sygate Pro. Been using it for 2 years now. No problem.
Used ZoneAlarm back then, it's pretty good aswell.
About XP's built-in firewall, I still don't trust it, but heard it's been improved (SP2) and is better than the one in SP1.
Anyway, I have a router with firewall... so I'm pretty secured hehe

The only two firewalls I have ever really messed with were Zone Alarm Pro and Sygate's Personal Firewall. Both are great, I use ZAP for my desktop and Sygate for my laptop.

Zonealarm Security Suite uses Computer Associate Etrust virus scanner. If you get the CA Security Suite it comes with ZA firewall.

i have done a lot of testing on many AntiVirus and Firewall apps for the company i work for.
My findings are:
Firewall - Sygate (without a doubt the strongest and easiest to use)
Antivirus - Kaspersky (A little harder to use, tho provides the best protection)
Hope this helps some people.

What features does Kaspersky firewall have, that the others lack?

Zonealarm. I recomend the free to the pro because the free gives you all you'll ever need for no cost.
