Surfboard B.V. has unveiled an improved version of its Ixquick metasearch engine that combines at least 10 international and local search engines. The new version also features an international telephone directory and displays national and international price comparisons.
Surfboard claims that the new Ixquick version covers more of the Internet than Google or any other individual search engine. Google is not included in Ixquick, however, but other major search engines such as AskJeeves and Yahoo are.
"The well-known problem of commercial manipulation carries considerably less weight at Ixquick, thus securing the relevance of the searches," said Alex van Eesteren, Surfboard spokesperson, in a statement. " we didn't just improve the algorithm, but the interface as well."
The company said searches can be refined easily by steering a search in the direction of the individual search engine that produces the original search results. Searchers can choose from 17 different languages.
The international telephone directory enables users to search by either name or by reverse phone number. Founded in the U.S., Surfboard was had Dutch ownership since 2000.
